Well I installed a brand new bubble magus hero 180 skimmer into my sump last thursday. So it has been up and running for 9 days now and it constantly overflows after I feed. The first couple of days it overflowed non stop which I was told was due to it breaking in.

Well as of last monday this pretty much stopped and it skimmed great dark crap out of the water. I did notice it overflowed after feeding formula 1 cubes on monday nite. on tuesday it did not overflow when feeding other frozen foods.

It then ran non stop with no problems for 3 days without overflowing(i made sure not to feed formula1 frozen food during this time). It is fine with formula 1 flakes.

Anyways the last 2 days it has been overflowing like crazy. It did it yesterday nite after feeding f1 frozen like expected(trying to get rid of the last of the cubes). But after about 3-4 hours it stopped and ran normal last nite.

This morning fed frozen brine and it started overflowing(didn't do this before with this type of food). And it has yet to stop overflowing all day. I cleaned the air line to make sure it wasnt clogged and rinsed out the inside of the skimmer lightly. Still overflowing all day.

I have just removed the drain plug and let it run into the sump hoping eventually it would stop overflowing. Ive tried letting it sit powered off for couple hours no help.

What's weird is most other skimmers stop skimming after feeding or putting my hands into the tank. This thing does not do this as of last couple days. Instead of stopping it immediately overflows upon feeding.

I even tried to power it off before feeding and leave it off for an hour, no help.

It has the sicce psk-1000 pump(since they come with several different pumps on the hero).

Sorry for the long post, but is this normal or does it just need to be broken in more? Should I keep letting it run even when it's overflowing as I have been or keep it off?

    Thanks for any help

    Welcome to 3reef.

It takes several weeks for a new skimmer to break in. Keep your water level as low as possible this should keep it from overflowing as easily. Raise the level as it stops raising as high.
