I have the ocotopus bh 800s skimmer rated for a 130 gallon, i have a lightly stocked 46 bowfront.

I run the skimmer on dry, and i had cleaned the skimmer and the filter sock yesterday. Now it's half way full, the skimmate color is very light. It also usually makes sucking or gurguling noises for the air intake tube, but for the past 24hrs it has finally been quiet. And it's also been foaming
I'm thinking the skimmate is light because theres such a low bioload for such as huge skimmer that theres really not much to skimm.

And i'm thinking it's skimming fast because it's finally working how it should. It usually never fills up this fast, i usually only need to clean it about once a week because not much water fills up. If it is the skimmer working how it should, i am just so happy that its being quiet

check the air intake on the pump. overtime they can start to clog up and it will pull less air. this can make the water level rise and will not pull as much nasties out but will cause the cup to fill faster.

Puffer chick , in addition to above, have you added any powders or liquids recently
I know you got your 1st coral, so did you make any additions to the tank, with regard feeding said coral or raising some parameter?

as some additives can cause excessive foam production so skimmate will be wet.

Yup, I have to lift the cup all the way up after I dose my Cal, Alk, and Mag. My skimmer just goes nuts for about a day. I started turning it off for a day after dosing, because it would get so bad. Any one else have this problem or just me?

No new liquids or powders have been added. No other additions since the two new corals from last week

I know my skimmer goes crazy if I leave it on during feeding. But lately I have it off and I don't have a problem with it any more
