Decisions, decisions:confused: I'm looking at the Reef Octopus NWB-200 or octo extreme? Is the extreme worth the extra $75? I a setting up a 135gal with a 40 sump. Bioload will probably not be big at first, but will down the road. What do you all think? Or is there a better skimmer for the money? I have a Octopus 110 in my wife's 40 gal /20 gal sump and it skims great.
    Thanks
    DJ

Yes it is worth it. The pump is better. For your size there are others, but not any better for that price.

I've seen them with black lettering and red lettering, are they the same skimmer? From what I could find, they have the same part number.

Ditto.....I've put these on several installs and they work great. I've never once any hobbyist ever say, "Boy, I sure wish I would have purchased the cheaper skimmer".

    I really don't know. I would call/email the company.

The black is standard line. The red is the extreme line. XP is their buble blaster pump line.

If the bioloads not gonna be large, the 200 should be fine unless you plan on going overboard. As its been said, no one ever complained about getting too strong of a protein skimmer. So if its in your budget go for it, if its not, put that 75 towards some bad ass lighting system or a chiller

Actually, I have seen extreme's with the black lettering, but they are the older model without the gate valve. What's interesting is most places want the same price for both.

Well, now I'm looking at the SWC Xtreme 160 because the footprint is a lot smaller (9X7) than the Octopus (15X9.5) . To put the Octo Xtreme in my sump I would have to remove baffles. Will the SWC 160 be enough cause the price jumps $100 to move up to the 180. Should I just knock a baffles out or look at recirculating skimmers? Moving the baffles will be a pain ;(
