Hello, I'm looking at a skimmer for my 46 gallon bowfront. It has 60-70 pounds of live rock in it, and large CUC from reefcleaners, and a hob canister filter with carbon media. No fish yet, I wanted to purchase all of my equipment and have pristine water conditions before I started adding any fish. I've been looking at marinedepot.com and have found the aqua c skimmers have good reviews. I was looking at the remora and also the CPR skimmers. Is there a better skimmer for $150 or less than these? Thanks

I bought a HOB skimmer/fuge on Ebay for $80 for my 29 gallon, but it is rated for a 55-65 gallon tank. Works great and I have a place to grow chaeto, house pods etc. This one is from Odessa so it is Chinese made, but I think the power head is interchangeable with a maxi-jet. A nice alternatitive to a traditional sump. Here's a pic of it in action!

I own the skimmer below and an Eshopps and there is no comparison. Reef Octo wins hands down. I do not feel confident with the Eshopps plastic parts whereas the real PVC and thick acrylic used in the Reef Octo not only look better but are structurally more sound. The Eshopps has no real means of dealing with micro bubbles whereas the Reef Octo has a bubble trap and a chamber for a heater. Plus the reaction chamber is much larger. You'll be much happier with the Octo, trust me.

For a trivial 15$ more you could have this one which includes the pump outside the tank for more viewing room and less water heating along with a bubble plate in the skimmer and surface skimmer:

You could even get one with an ATO for 30$ more:

Just an example of the reviews these get:

I have a PSK-75 (not HOB), but there isnt a whole lot of difference other than tubing. Personally I like mine. I got it as a deal from craigslist though, had it not been for that I was looking at the Reef Octo mentioned above.
