I'm putting together a 40 gallon breeder and need to get a supply list going.

After many measurements with the stand I will be using, I only have room for a 10 gallon tank with a clearance of 18" for a skimmer. The stand I'm using is an old tv stand that was made for a 55 inch tube tv before we got new flat screens. So I decided to use this stand to cut costs down.

Now, what skimmers can/should I use? I looked at many in-sump skimmers but they are way too tall. My only option so far is an Aquamaxx HOB-1.

If I were to get a bigger HOB skimmer, could I attach it to the outside of the stand and extend the input and return to the tank? Or will this hinder it's effectiveness?

    Thoughts and ideas?
