I have a 5 gallon that will be a mixed reef. Im wondering if I will really need a skimmer or if consistent water changes will do the trick? If i do need a skimmer, then what brand would i get? it will need to be a hob, since im not running a sump. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance

IMO water changes is all you need to do, but do 5% every week

Have you got a build thread or anything?
I'd be quite interested in more info on this tank as i have what i think is about a 7 gal fowlr myself. well it has rock and A fish.
mine only had an undergravel filter for the past few months and used conditioned tap water, could possibly have been the worst nano setup you'll ever see. which is why i recently made a thread asking for help :)

there were some helpful comments about filtration in there if you're interested.
i've added a canister filter to mine a few days ago, fingers crossed it works out

looks good, much better than mine was lol
    did your gha settle down?
if it has, how long did it take?
do you have any problems with the open top?
the boostLED seem like the perfect light, but i wasnt sure if stuff getting in/out would be a problem.

sorry if i'm diverting from your origing question lol, hopefully someone else can help while i bump

the only problem with the open top is the evaporation rate, but its manageable. As far as live stock jumping out its always a risk, but some are more prone to jumping than others. just gotta do your research.
