hello everyone, it's been a while since the last time I posted, I have been dedicating myself to do research for my future reef and since I am moving away in less than one year, setting up a reef seems too little time to then have to disassemble and move verything to my next home.

In my plans regarding avaliability of equipment in my country a 125 gal reef seems like a good idea, altho I may have the oportunity to buy a 240 with a starfire glass front, wich skimmer configuration would you recomend?

    One or two skimmers?
    Wich size for each way?

I have easy access to the eshopps line of skimmers.

I have the octopus extreme 300 for my 240dt 75sump 29fuge. It's not up and running yet but went with the 300 extreme because great reviews of the octopus brand. It has a large footprint though, larger than is stated in its specs, takes up half of the 75gal sump.

So then what country do you live in and what is available to you? I remember another gentleman was pretty limited where he was and what was available in his power ratings.

I live in Venezuela, the main avaliability of skimmers here are red sea berlin skimmers but those are too small, we also have acces to some minor chinese brand skimmers that altho claim to be enough you can clearly see they are not, also I got acces to the complete eshopps line of skimmers.

That could be a posibility i have been contemplating, actually I want to buy a lot of stuff you cant buy here so I guess my best opyion is to pay a visit to Miami and buy everything over there, now the main question for me is:

What size skimmer should I buy? I mean whats the "rating" I have to strive for?
Is it true the turnover thing that red sea talks about? Or is it only about the red sea skimers?

You are going to pay a premium for doing what you are doing. You don't have to pay for the most expensive skimmer. I would agree with the two already mentioned. Octo Extreme and SWC. Very tested pieces and very good value.

Most will say get a skimmer rated for twice your setup. So you can go bigger in the future. But you are already going bigger. A skimmer will only pull what is there. So a bigger skimmer will not pull more, it will just give you more head room. Any of the 300 skimmers will do great for you. If you want a cone MSX2S is a beast. Look up MSX/SWC same company different distributors. It's a Canadian company. MSX (Marine Solutions) is the American distributor. MSX and Octo are very similar in line up. Both great company.

Look into the Super reef Octopus 5000 with the new Bubble Blaster pump. Rated up to 400g. Awesome skimmer and the pump is very promising.
