    What would be a good skimmer for a 55 Gallon Reef?
    My budget for one is $200 :)

    This is one of those; "6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another" categories. I have the Coralife Super Skimmer 65. If used in the sump (as I do), once you find the proper water level it's a great skimmer. I like mine. My LFS buddy is hooked on another larger one for around $220.00.

    Here it is for $248.00 from the company that makes it but I'm sure if you shop it around you can find it cheaper;

    www.fosterandsmithaquatics has the Coralife 125 skimmer for $175. It can be in-sump or HOB.

    I don't like the design of either one of them. If you don't want the Sealife (I know it's good and real quiet) then go with the Coralife Super Skimmer. Mine is pretty quiet (as long as it is in the sump). Here is a link; Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel Seans link didn't get me there.

    I've heard really good things about the Octopus skimmer, but don't know much about the others. Is it safe to say this will be going into a sump?

    Hard to say, they don't give any numbers to judge by. Octopus though seems to be right, so if it is for150g...then no... it's too big. Do the 4 for a 55g.

    Look at a Bubble Magus NAC-7... good performer and fits your budget.

    For $25 more get a SWC 120 cone, better build and materials. The 120 is for a 55g.... If you want bigger the 160 cone is good for twice your amount. $275 though.

    Between a 4 a NAC-7 and a SWC 120... you will be set.

    I'm getting rid of my Coralife SS-65. But for $200, you can get a really nice SWC skimmer. The Coralife 65 should be about $120 brand new.
