I have my tank setup with just sand and water so far and now need to pick up some of my next goodies..one being a skimmer. What skimmer is most recomended here for a 46gal sized tank. Also at this point it looksl ike I may only be able to fit a 10gal sump/fuge is this going to intorduce some problems that I should be aware of now? Sump too small for 46gal tank?

    Thanks,
    Mike

you might try a hang on skimmer if you need the room.try a 20gl sump would be better.

I'd like to do bigger than a 10gal tank, but I am not sure I can get a 20gal to fit in my stand. I have a oceanic 46gal bowfront and the measurements are appx. 34in long and 10in deep :(

Here, check this page with dimensions...

It looks like you should be able to fit the 20 gallon High tank
    20 x 10 x 24
The same footprint as the 10, but taller.

It will take more overspill from your main tank in case of a power outage, and you should be able to place a hang on skimmer on it. You might be able to fit the Aqua C Remora on the side with room to spare as well.

I don't know if you could cram a fuge in there, but it would work well as a sump. :)

    Good rec. BL! :)

I also agree that a hang on the back (of the sump) skimmer will give you more sump room, provided you have the room between the tank and the wall. I did just that with 10 gallon sump and a Turboflotor skimmer.

birdlady and matt rogers as always out here being helpful! That recommendation on thank looks like a perfect fit..I even thought about doing 2 tanks side by side and possibly making one of them a fuge that has a weir that drains into the return sectioin of the other (sump tank) This 20h looks like a good idea though...now, I don't usually like to skimp on important items like a skimmer and I like the idea of a hang off the back skimmer to be placed on the sump, but whats one of best units to go with?

    Thanks again!
    Mike

P.S. can't wait to get this tank up and running, its looking awesome already so far and all I have is 50lbs of premium play sand and halfway filled with distilled water :)
