Every time I change the filter sock on my 90g the skimmer goes insane and starts overflowing and blowing micro bubbles everywhere. It does subside after a while and from my reading I know other people have this issue. But I am curious does anyone have a solution to prevent this? I wash my filter socks with bleach, and usually before I put them in the tank I rinse them with Ro/Di. I end up having to adjust the skimmer every time I change a sock so I dont change very often.

Mine does that every time also and I ended up double rinsing mine and letting them dry until if finally stopped for me. I say for me because others have tried it and the same thing still continues for them. Maybe its the ammonia or detergents still left in the socks.

I put a little dechlorinator in some ro/di after I wash them with bleach. Then I let them air dry.
Never have a problem with my skimmer.

i toss all 4 of my filter socks in the washer with HOT water and a 1/4 cup of white vinigar, stop using bleach. as soon as mine comes out of the wash they look brand new, they dont stink, and they are ready to go back in with out a rinse, and without the skimmer freaking out.

+1 on this, avoiding any kind of household cleaning products to use on your tank or equipment is the best. Yet another good use for vinegar in this hobby.

Just out of curiosity, are you remembering to turn of the skimmer when you turn of your returns? The water level in the sump rising could cause the skimmer to overflow I believe.

    No pumps get turned off.

And I will try the vinegar, I just used bleach cause I know a lot of other people use it.

the way i look at it is :

if it would kill you if you drank it, dont use it for things that go in your fishes water.

never ever ever ever never use cleaning chemicals.

    thats just my 2 cents.
