Skimmer help

Ok, here is my deal. I have $300 credit at Amazon and want to use it to buy a skimmer.

I think after looking at everything on there I would go with the Reef Octopus 8 in. skimmer. Amazon.com: Reef Octopus Needle Wheel Skimmer - 8 in. - up to 250 gallons: Pet Supplies

This would be for my 180 FOWLR.

Anybody know of any other options on Amazon or if this would do the trick?

im with him also great skimmers and a nice price tag to go with it

 

try looking for reef octopus extreme, or a SWC 230.

 

I did find this one Amazon.com: Reef Octopus Extreme XS200 In Sump Skimmer - to 200 gal - 15 in x 9.4 in x 23 in: Home & Garden , if I am willing to spend a little more money.

Would this be better? It looks like it uses less electricity so that would be nice in the long run. Are the extremes that much better though and worth the $50?

 

the extremes are better--they use the new sicce pumps which are much better--no start up issues, less electricity, less noise..my new skimmer has the psk 1000 on it and its kickin my reefs a$$..my buddy has a extreme and it looks good so far...worth the extra $50 for sure!

 

I have heard the extremes are louder than others, has anyone heard this?

 

Noise is quite subjective and nobody ever gives DB readings. Depends on person and back ground noise and prefference.

Those are not any louder than any of it's competitors in that price range. You would have to spend quite a bit more to get something "quiet".
