    try looking for reef octopus extreme, or a SWC 230.

    the extremes are better--they use the new sicce pumps which are much better--no start up issues, less electricity, less noise..my new skimmer has the psk 1000 on it and its kickin my reefs a$$..my buddy has a extreme and it looks good so far...worth the extra $50 for sure!

    I have heard the extremes are louder than others, has anyone heard this?

    Noise is quite subjective and nobody ever gives DB readings. Depends on person and back ground noise and prefference.

    Those are not any louder than any of it's competitors in that price range. You would have to spend quite a bit more to get something "quiet".
