Skimmer help

Starting a new Belin method tank with a Excalibur skimmer. I have a simple question about protein skimmer operation.

At what level should the water be in the skimmer in relation to the collection cup? Its a hang on style skimmer. Pic of Skimmer

 

Hi Oz!  I just wanted to say welcome to our group! I'm not familiar with that skimmer. I'm also a newbie. There will be others here with more experience shimming in.  

With mine the water is in the tower part about midway or less. When it starts to foam it climbs up the column and on into the collecting cup at the top. I keep kind of a dry skim.  Before it has a chance to go into the overflow tubing I clean it out. I try to clean it out a couple of times a week so that it will skim as efficiently as possible.

I don't know that this helped any, but good luck and let us know how it all turns out.
