for the amount of money you would spend on the coralife you could get a reef octo cone and it would be way better then the coralife. That coralife skimmer is in short old technology. Needle wheel skimmers have been surpassed by venturi and bubbleplate skimmers. I shopped around but found a reef octo vortex 300 for $100. This skimmer is comparable to the coralife but at half the price here locally for me. an upgrade from that would be a cone which is the best right now IMO. the design allows for the most possible microbubble production as the whole skimmer body acts as a full reaction chamber. the cone skimmers body is a full taper bringing the bubbles to the top gradually rather than strait up to a collection cup that has a ridge where the two meet and is also the area where alot of the bubbles break due to the fact the trasition is not smooth.

also the smallest cone is suitable for 40-75G so you 55 should fall right in. The vortex 300 i am using is also the 40-75G. both have a small footprint, the cone has the pump internal where the vortex is external and requires alittle more space.

The Coralife can be a decent skimmer if it's run properly, but like was said before there are much better skimmers on the market. Is there a price range you're looking to stay with?
