My new EV 240 skimmer with 12 mag pump came today.

It's a lot bigger than i thought. I've tried every way i can think of to get it work right. Right now it's working but it's outside the sump and stand.

I want to put it in the sump but it's to big. What would you guys do if you were in this situation??

I was thinking about taking out the splash tray in the sump and sit it in there. The skimmer will airate the water enough right so there isn't really a need for the noisy spill tray is there? It makes me nervous having the skimmer outside the sump because if the ball valve isn't set right the water can over flow and flood out of the air intake. It's already done it twice when i first hooked it up.

Also, when i took the skimmer out of the box i didn't see anyway to plug the collection cup. I made a DIY plug but i don't know if it's going to work. Any sugestions?

    Chiller

Also, when i was moving the hoses around while the pumps were off i touched the chiller hose and it chocked me. It didn't have any water comeing out but i felt a mild current. That's not normal right? The chiller is brand new, i've had it about a week.

if it wont comprimise the integrity of the sump by removin if possiable the spill tray i would do that... But make sure the skimmer fits first... the plugg i seen on your skimmer looks like it will hold up. if you have some and dont plan on running a hose from the collection cup to another place use some type silcone sealer and kinda make it a permanent fix or seal..

Your shockin problem with your chiller, i dont know hope theres a eletrical gooru out there that will help out... But sounds like a ground issue of some sort... But i am not sure..

hope this helps out a bit...

    Good Luck...!!

I would unplug your chiller right away. hopefully you already did. Were your hands wet when you touched the chiller hose or cord? Is it your hose or cord?

yes, my hands were wet and so was i after dealing with the skimmer. I turned it back on. It's working like normal now and i don't feel anything when i put my hand in the tank. I have the protective outlets on the walls. Maybe i should call the company and ask them what to do?

Dude... you can't plug your skimmer. Right now you have no air movement. The drain must remain open for air flow. Read your directions. I know AquaC makes this clear in them. It will also tell you how much overall clearance you need in your stand to be able to remove the cup for cleaning.

And, the out flow from the skimmer needs to be above the water level in the sump. So you need to see if you will have enough hight to move it up above the water level and still have room to get the cup off.

People do run their skimmers external to the sump, but not external to the stand with plumbing. You are really asking for it. I'm really not trying to be rude, but I think you need to slow down.

As Powerman said, open up that collection cup drain. If you don't your air blockage will keep the skimmer from working properly. That drain is to allow for the collection cup to be used for a longer period of time before you have to dump and clean it. Connect a 1/2" hose to a 2-liter soda bottle and you will be set. The skimmer is actually designed to work outside of the sump as well. Just allow the skimmer outlet to drain freely into the sump. If you use flex hose, don't let it dip, making a U shape in the hose, that will cause it to backup and overflow if the gate valve is semi closed.

I agree, you cant plug the drain of the collection cup. What I did was to cut a tube as long as the collection cup(CC) pointing upwards. When you start up the skimmer, you will notice an air flow through the CC drain fitting. Luna
