Pretty sure that didn't come standard. Looks like it got tangled in the needle wheel.

The white part on the pump intake is the reducer.

Here's a better picture of the intake reducer.

So, after talking to mike, I had placed a rubber container under the skimmer to raise the level it was under.
After a fail attempt, I decided to get something even higher! I left just a small distance in between the pump and the water. About two nails worth. AND IT WORKED. It didn't overflow anymore and the bubbles look foamier. Im going to let it run for today and tomorrow and see what happens. :)

I did some research on this and apparently, ( maybe you guys knew this already but) a skimmer that is NOT new. One that has been already broken into the tank MUST be properly raised. You can get away with it when it's new somehow, however after its broken into it will overflow constantly!

good info, thanks. I have never had a mesh wheel. Heard of them plenty of times, I guess i just imagined something that looked different.

Yea!! I'm happy that you got it figured out. I was curious what the advice was.....I have a reef octopus hang-on and was struggling with overflow as well. My guess for yours was that it needed to be raised up in the water more but that's interesting to know about the broken in skimmer.

The black thing is called a mesh to produce more bubbles. What about the water level in the sump. Maybe is too hight.
