skimmer not skiming????????

*****for some reason that question sounds familiar****
well anyways... when Our school club.. "coral club" was checking out a tank that we are going to fix, we saw that the skimmer didnt work. ( im not experienced with skimmers so i dont know what to do) when my teacher turns it on it only returns water? but there is no bubbles or anything.

( I am sure there is something to skim in that tank)... so what should i go about it? what things can i look for in it?

please tell me all the info you need so that i can check it and give you guys some feedback so we can solve the problem.

 

is it making bubbles in the chamber?

 

its really not making bubbles anywhere. ( i kinda saw that it only sucks water in and then throws it back)

 

its your airline then most likely. if its not making bubbles in the chamber then its not gonna skim. make sure the airline doesnt have a hole and is sealed good and water has no way of getting in it.

 

Does it have a needle wheel or venturi (or should it have one but does not)? What brand is it?

 

I think a good cleaning will most likely either fix or bring to light the problem it has.

 

What type of skimmer is it? I hope it's one of those antique air stone one's...?
