I believe you can connect the maxi straight to the seaclone. without the tube. for in sump installation. The tube is for HOB installation i believe.

Yea mine has always been in the sump, so It makes sense. It prolly had came with one and he just took it off, cause it has the capability to hang on the back also.

But Im gonna give it a good cleaning and see what I can do:)

I wouldnt entirely clean it, just in some of the water paths. I believe you would want to keep some of the bacterial colony that has been growing there.

Seaclones are notorious for having to constantly adjust them.

Katie,I have that same skimmer,it Is a seaclone. The instructions say to take the small(airline)tube off once a week and run warm water through it.It gets clogged with salt, then cant suck in any air to mix with the water. Also the little black valve on top of it does affect how much water comes out because it changes with how much air you're mixing in.The more you open it the more bubbles you get,so you have to find a balance there.I set mine to where theres a good vortex(like a tornado)in the bottom of the skimmer, then make small adjustments from there. They really arent a good skimmer but for the money they at least do something.Im gonna get a different one when I can find a good used one at the LFS.Good luck.
