I put a filter sock on my skimmer today to stop the bubbles from pouring into the tank, everything seemed fine and all, the water in the collection cup was a lot higher than normal and more turbualnce and a lot a foam, this was probably about 4 hours ago, just now i decided to check on it, found the lid off, electrical cord soaking wet, floor behind the tank soaking wet.
Everything was still running no fires just a BIG mess!

the water on the floor is almost all cleaned up now, but the electrical cord is still pretty wet, and its wet where you plug in the cords, i'm not sure if i should use this electrical cord again, right now there is no flow or anything on in the tank, so i'm hoping to get this all cleaned up as soon as possible so they can have the flow back

It may have just been the back pressure on the skimmer from the sock not letting the water escape fast enough causing it to overflow.

That's why I wouldn't restrict the flow on my skimmer. I tried something similar on my bullet with nylons and it backed it up and stopped skimming properly. If you put a sock on it I would make sure the outlet of the skimmer is above water and flows into the sock, and when the sock clogs then it can overfly back into the tank.

when cleaning just now i found one of my nerites on the floor, could that of possibly gotten sucked up through the skimmer and did something and shoot out through the collection cup?

I still say it's from the filter sock

I am sorry about your stuff getting wet, Lot of work cleaning it up. :(
I would change it out. Once it gets wet like that it will start to corrode inside. Cords are cheap.
