I noticed there is a lot of detritus in the bottom of my skimmer section in my sump. Would it be beneficial to put a small power head down there to circulate water? I figure it would help it keep moving.

my skimmer has been running like crap lately, time to pull it out and overhaul it. :-/

I think that happens to all of us who has a sump. What I do is when Im doing a WC, I also syphon the detritus in the sump. There is also a snail that will eat the detritus up, but I always forget the name of it, maybe someone who has a better memory than I can chime right in and remind me. Some ppl try to pump up that detritus right back up to the DT to feed the corals with it, but I havent tried that yet. If you want to avoid the building up of detritus in the sump, try placing a felt filter pad where the water comes in the sump and you will see that no more detritus shows up in your sump and your water is going to get crystal clear. You will need to clean out the pad every so often b/c it gets clogged and brown looking. I change mine out twice a week. Hope this sheds some light. Luna

I have read about stirring it up and pumping it back into the tank. I can't see as it would hurt anything. If it is destined to rot, get it back into the water column and let it feed something first. Makes sense to me.
