Skimmer placement

    What you wrote is quite correct but please remember that the return water from the sump doesn't return to the bottom of the display tank in most cases. The return comes back into the display in the top few inches and in most instances simply flows back into the sump again.

    At least with a skimmer in the display tank you are taking water from the bottom levels, aerating it via the skimmer and releasing it back to the top.

    My initial comments in this post are important as the laminar flow caused by that return water can in some instances actually stop the particles from getting into the sump.

    My return from the refugium is at 300 GPH and flows across the back of my tank and is picked up by a powerhead in the opposite corner and is shot to the front glass on the diagonal.

    I have a HOB Seaclone 150 on my sump.
