I have an Aqua Euro USA Skimmer and I love it. I have been playing with the idea of changing out the pumps to give it more punch. I have heard lots of people talking about adding mag drive pumps and I have a Mag 12 as my return pum and really like it so I was thinking mag 7 for my skimmer. One question, the AE USA pumps are needle wheel, and the mag drive pumps are regular impeller, what do I have to do to be able to make them skimmer pumps? Am I supposed to add a venturi? If so, where do I get parts for this?

I am not sure if you can add a venturi to a non venturi skimmer

i would not attempt to switch out your needle wheel pumps with a non needle wheel one with a mod. i dont think you will be happy with the result. i think needle wheels are the most efficent type of skimmer you can get atleast IMO.

they only way to upgrade would be buy a bigger needle wheel pump.

so in recap replaceing your NW pump with a Non-NW pump will be a very bad idea

i have no recommendations as i havent replaced any need wheel pumps.
i would worry about being able to control the height of the water level.

putting aside the effiency of nw at adding air bubbles.

to high a flow rate and the skimmer may over flow.

i think the safest way to upgrade it would be add a recirculating nw pump.

to do that you would need to put 2 holes in the side of the skimmer one for pump intake and one for pump output. so its adding more bubbles.

i would make sure its a pump made for recirculation so the bubbles wont clog the intake
