I have a Reef Octopus HOB BH-100 skimmer. Basically its been running for about 3 weeks now and here is my issue that has me confused: It makes tons of bubbles in the skimmer (not in the tank of course), seems to have awesome flow and working perfectly. However, it only pulls skimmate every once in a while. Ive tried every setting possible to get it to skim more consistently however I only get light skimmate in the cup about once a week. I am thinking it has had plenty of time to break in. So is it just because of a low bio-load in the tank? or am I not doing something right? haha

How much of a bioload do you have? Is the tank fairly new as well?

Tank is about 3 months old, bioload is about 20 inverts (2 shrimp, 8 hermits, 10 snails last time I counted), & was 3 fish (but they are in quarantine now due to Ich breakout. 55Gal tank FOWLR for now. I thought maybe it is just from a low bio load but I def want to confirm incase something is indeed wrong haha

    Confirmed.

With little to no bioload, you'll get little to no skimmate.

Mine was doing that too. So I took it apart and noticed the pump was clogged with some of my refugium algae. Another time it was the bubble plate that was blocked. Now I know to take mine apart every few weeks since I don't run socks.
