    Hey All,

I have a few questions regarding a protein skimmer for my 10 gallon tank. At the moment, I have a HOB proein skimmer that makes a decent amount of noise. It is a Rio Nano Skimmer. I was wondering if there was a comparable in tank skimmer that I could replace it with.

I know that it would take up some of my limitted space, but I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations?

Thanks for any advice that may be able to be provided.

my friend in a 10 gallon you can get by with no skimmer as long as you are strict and loyal to your water changes (35-50% per week should do it)

    cute tank btw

Thank you all for your input. I play on doing a 25% water change every other week regardless of whether or not I have a skimmer on my tank or not.

Would not having a skimmer cause me to have to do more water changes. I know that there is actually only about 8 gallons of water in the tank as the rocks, sand, etc displace about 2 gallons of water, so in my case, 2 gallons is 25%.

Right now the Rio nano skimmer I have makes a very noticeable hum.

skimmer and 25% weekly i think would be a good combo or no skimmer and 35% (at least) weekly. but thats my 2 cents, it also depends what you want to keep in there.
soft corals can deal much better with dirty water than hard corals. i would go for some zoas and ricordea or discus mushrooms

35-50% a week!!!??? I'm sorry but that is rediculous and exaggerated!
I actually currently have a 10 gallon with NO skimmer and NO sump or refuge! I do a 25% water change once a week and I have 3 fish and am jam packed with coral. Softies, lps... And yes... Even sps! With no skimmer. With my weekly 25% water changes and my very careful feeding schedual, my nitrates barely make it to 5ppm... Usually averaging around 2ppm and lower. I vote getting rid of the skimmer and continue with 25% weekly water changes.

This does seem extreme. You would be removing too much beneficial stuff

It's a waste of salt, but you really don't run any risk of removing beneficial bacteria through water changes.

    +1

I have no skimmer, sump, or fuge on my 29g softy tank, and I only do 10% monthly WCs. With 3 fish and a large CuC, I have to overfeed to keep everything alive and have no problem with nitrates or algae. I do run GAC in my HOB.
