I dont have a GFCI, but I do use a power surge protector strip.. same thing right?

I would get a grounding probe NOW.

As molecular biologists, we electroporate the cell walls of bacteria to ingress plasmid DNA, a circular double stranded segment of DNA as we transform bacters into carriers of target genes.

So basically the stray voltage could be either killing the bacters, electroporating the lipopolysaccaride membrane, or nothing. It isn't known what the V/r or A is, so we can only safely assume it isn't an ideal condition for the proliferation of bacters (cycling).

    That is my suggestion.

No. A GFCI will shut down everything if water hits power etc. A power strip distributes power and some will protect against environmental surges.

I splashed water on my power strip once, threw a breaker in the house and sucked. Had I had a GFCI, it would've broke the circuit before it hit the wall outlet. It's the same thing that is in your bathroom outlet. Same purpose.

I have a GFCI on ALL my tanks now.
