Do I need a skimmer for a fish only with rock system? This is for my B29. Gonna put 2 fish in there, no coral. Right now I have the biocube skimmer, which is working ok.

Do I need to upgrade? Does a FOWLR need a skimmer at all?

    cheers.

You don't need a skimmer, if you can export the excess nutrients some other way. Whether thats with a lot of rock, a refugium, a HOB filter, etc. it doesn't matter.

With only two fish, assuming they are size appropriate you should be fine.

sounds good. I will keep the biocube skimmer on there. It works, just not well. lol.

I made the mistake of getting a dwarf puffer for my 65G reef tank. He's starting to cause crap now, so the BC will become his new home. He'll get a tankmate later.

Yeah we tried a biocube skimmer in our 14, it was garbage  My views on skimmers are that they are an absolute MUST HAVE for tanks that are medium to heavily stocked, I know I wouldn't have a tank without one. Our tank has always been stocked to the max, which is why we have a reef octo skimmer rated for around 90 or 120 gallons (I forget). But in your situation, as long as you stay on top of water changes and maybe toss in some macro algae, you should be fine.

Yes you need a skimmer. The live rock on it's own, unless you have hundreds of pounds is not enough.
