    Hey everyone,
I am getting a 100 gallon aquarium and Im turning my 60 gallon acrylic into a refugium.....so my question is; if i get a skimmer, do i have to get one thats powerful enough for 160 gallons? or if i get one thats just for "up to 100 gallons" would that be powerful enough? id just like to get a little feedback on what you guys think.....thanks

Hmm,  thats an excellent question.  I would say that you need something to handle 160g but I bet there are many different opinions on this and that you probably would be ok with a skimmer rated for 120g.  And by the way.  Size does matter, (evil grin)

One for 100 or 120 would be fine most likely, but myself, I'd probably just get one rated for the total volume if the price isn't that much more.

This issue can get really cloudy if you think too much about it - there are those that prefer under skimming to over skimming. But I prefer to keep it simple. :)

Plus many skimmers are rated for 75 - 250 gallons anyway.. so that would be one that I'd get anyway.

Thanks for the replies guys....i figured that i would need a skimmer powerful enough for the two tanks combined, but it never hurts to ask....
