Skimmer stopped producing skimmate

    I constantly have to adjust flow and clean my cups. I always get thick brown skimmate and it has been running for 2 years.

    Well I found the problem. My maxijet 1200 was clogged with Chaeto algae that got sucked into it. It looked like the flow out of it was fine so I didn't suspect the powerhead. I did end up cleaning out the whole unit the best I could though just in case. The output chamber was full of feather duster tubes. I mean full.

    I'm now filling up the collection cup half way in 2-3 days with green tea.

    If your output chamber is full of feather dusters i would leave them in there :p They're another integral piece to the bio filtration puzzle and IMO are a very important part of an aquarium. I don't find them too appealing so i'd rather them in the sump :p
