I am thinking about upgrading skimmers, I currently use a SWC 160 Cone, and I am not super thrilled with it. I dont think it pulls out enough skimmate, and I am always having to adjust it, and I want somethign better. I was looking at the Reef Octopus line. Maybe staying with the whole cone skimmer concept. Any suggestions would be helpful. Not going to spend over 450 on a new skimmer though.

Is your sump set up to have a constant water level where your skimmer is placed?

i think it may be because theres nothing to skim out! that skimmer is rated for like 150ish gallons its probably skimming fine, but after its done skimming it has nothing else to skim... does that make any sense? The constant adjusting is probably the culprit. Skimmers need to be tuned once and left to do its job, messing with it a lot isnt helping it. Once you get the water level figured then it should be good to go.

Im willing to grab that swc off you for my 75, that is if the price is right ;)

Great point 3. Try running the skimmer part of the time. Most skimmers that run 24/7 do so because they need to. Yours is def rated for almost double your water volume. IMO run it half as often, maybe 12 hrs during the day. try it out and see if it is more efficient for you.

Also idk if your one of those reefers who constantly has their hands in the tank but the oils and crud we have on our skin and hair instantly screws up the skimmer. it has to build up the crud on the collection cup all over again, and this can hurt performance. idk if this is your case but just an out of the box idea.
