they can be hella noisy, +1 on the tunze. I have o a 9011 that came with my reefpack 505, its by far the quietist skimmer i have seen yet.

do you have a sump you can put it in or do you have to have a hang on back model?

I too have a 30gallon which I bought an AquaticLife Internal Mini Skimmer 115 for.
It's my first and only skimmer so I have nothing to compare to. The only complaints I have are the microbubbles which can ruin the whole look of the display tank IMO, and the skimmate is a little too watery from what i've read online.

To counter the microbubbles I set up a 10gallon sump and put the skimmer in there, which works out perfect, and helps keep the entire system healthier.

If I had the money I would have splurged for the Tunze, because I've only heard good things about it.

I am using the Hydor slim skim nano and love it! I sit 2 feet from my tank and hear nothing from it. They make one for tanks up to 65g also. Best size skimmer for the money too :)
