    My skimmer runs in 7 1/2 in of water. I want to run 12 in of water in sump. So if i put skimmer on 4 1/2 stand i should not have problems right?

    Sounds about right to me.

    6-8" is the generally accepted range of water depths for most skimmers on the market today.
