Skimmer vs. Media reactor

I currently have a hydor koralia nano-skim protein skimmer in my 20 gallon tank and get a good amount of skimmate out of it but recently I saw a new media reactor made by innovative marine that can fit in the back of my all in one aquarium. My question for you is should I stick with the skimmer or switch to the media reactor. Why?

 

Stick with the skimmer.

1) I know you've heard the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Saltwater aquaria is an excellent place to apply that rule. You have a balanced ecosystem running. Making changes to filtration alters that balance. Many well-established tanks have crashed because of those changes.

2) Should you find you need the chemical filtration in the future due to increases in the bioload, media bags will serve the purpose quite well.

3) Last but not least, GAC does the same thing as a skimmer- it removes organics from the water, helping to reduce nitrate production. However, GAC needs replaced frequently, and you already have a kick-@$$ skimmer.
