Need some thoughts on a skimmer. I have a 55g with a 10g sump. what would be a not good but great skimmer for 300$ or less?

SWC xtreme 160 or 160 cone (or reef octopus 160 xtreme). Pretty close to your budget, and will rock your tank.

Eshopps PSK-100 would fill the bill. And would be quite effective IME.

i just put the swc 120 cone skimmer on my tank and its doing an awesome job, im impressed with it. i would recommend this skimmer. easy to adjust, and its also quiet. i cant hear it running...love that!

A 160 anything would be too big for your tank. A SWC 120 cone would be good. A vertex in 80 or 100, a Aquamax 100.
