Setting up a new 45 gallon reef. Just wondering what skimmers work the best and are fairly reasonable for this size tank. It will be located in a sump. Thanks!

You could use a HOB in the sump. An AquaC Remora or an Octopus BH-100F. If you want to go high-tech, look at the Deltec MC500 or MCE600. If you want a skimmer that will knock the socks off your setup, the following skimmers are good to use even up to a 90g tank (very comfortably).....so you would have room to upgrade.

    PM Bullet-1
    AquaC EV-120
    ETSS 600XR

I have a 55 gallon tank and use the AquaC Remora pro. It does a great job--I don't have a sump or refugim.

In a sump this is easy. Go with Aqua C Urchin or Urchin Pro. Not adjustment needed. You hook up the pump and drop it in. All these others need adjustments done to them and its a pain the butt,
and some of them don't work nearly as good as the Aqua C

I have a small 10 gal and was wondering if a skimmer was even necessary? wat does it do exactly? to my understanding its just like a power filter that I have! and whats a fuge? i was reading one of the other threads and found a tank with this strange mechanism.... any inputs would help!!
