Trust me, even with the skimmer there will be stuff in your water. And remember that most corals can get the nutrition they need from sufficient lighting. If you have corals that require feeding, you can target feed them while turning off your pumps/skimmer for 30 minutes or so.

And, yeah, the microbubbles are normal. That's why most people who use in-sump skimmers separate the skimmer section of their sump from the return pump with baffles that dissipate microbubbles.

Well during the break in period, its going to be making a ton of bubbles. Set the collection cup as high as it will go. Then when it breaks in you can lower it.

I just noticed that I have salt build up on part of the skimmer that isnt in water. Why?

It appears to be salt creep. it is normal. I just keep it knocked back off into the tank. just do it regurally so not to let it build up to much and then knock a big salt brick back into the tank. I feel By keeping it knocked back in the tank regurally it will help you keep your salinity more stable.

Just adding to the salt creep part. Any tank water that sits out of the tank and evaporates will leave salt behind. Thats why when you top up your water only use freshwater. The salt stays behind and the freshwater evaporates, hope this helps.
