I've ordered the SeaClone Protein Skimmer 100 from drsfostersmith.com, and was wondering is it bad as everyone talks on here or is it just bad compared to the best? I have never owned a skimmer before so i dont know to much about it. When I looked on the website it had good reviews but when I look around more everyone says what a big waste of money it is. Will it be good for me to use on a 55 gallon fish and reef tank for a beginning skimmer?

    Thank You

To be completely honest with you. Yes, it is a waste of money. That was my first skimmer on my 55 gallon. I bought it for 30 dollars used. It was still a waste of 30 bucks. There are some mods you can do to make it better but its still not so good imo.
I upgraded to a coralife 65 and that was suuuuuuch a better skimmer.
Maybe you can backout of the order???
Around me a used coralife is about 60 bucks. Well worth it.
    Good luck

It always prudent to do as thorough research as possible when choosing anything for your tank, from coral and fish to equipment. I have no personal experience with Seaclone but two of my LFS buddies were emphatic to steer clear of them. If it isn't too late, when you get it, simply return it telling them you changed your mind.

I am with unclejed on this. ALWAYS research before you buy. This goes for equipment and especially livestock.
There are lots of good used skimmers out there for sale if you ask. Just let everyone know you need a skimmer, give them basic info i.e. tank size, in sump or hang on back, livestock, things like that and for a little more than you paid for the Seaclone you could get a nice skimmer. Patience is key in this hobby, dont always buy the first thing you find. Also if you buy good equipment(not always the most expensive) the first time it will save many upgrades later down the road.

no good. I have one sitting in the garage and wouldn't sell it to anyone. I should just destroy it. To top it off, it's powered by a maxijet 1200. I have yet to see a maxijet survive longer than 8 months.
