My failsafe "No Fuss" system ...

I've always had a drain from a skimmer's receiving cup. If the skimmer doesn't come with a drain having a hose barb, then I drill and install one. Easy.

I run that drain to something like an empty spring water container placed *inside* the sump (maybe a gallon container). I empty that with routine maintenance.

If there's a sudden overflow -- it all just spills over the top of the gallon container and goes back into the sump. It's not concentrated waste if it overflows that fast. No big deal.

I then re-adjust the skimmer, cause if it overflows with 5 gallons, it's obviously needing some serious re-adjusting as is the aquarium (perhaps some major die-off in the aquarium or something). And life goes on.

No fuss, no worries, it's failsafe, and there's no additional stuff buy and to jam under my stand and my floors stay dry.
