my humu humu has white spots, i figured to be ich!! ive also noticed my spiny box puffer and both niger triggers skins are peeling. Is that also a sign if ICH? Ive only been in the hobby for 4ish months and i have never treated ich. i have "Metronidazole", will this cure ICH??... If this is not ich what else could it be and what steps should i take in medicating/QT???

    in the tank:
    live rock
    1 humu trig
    1 clown trig
    2 niger trig
    1 tomato clown
    1 spiny box puffer.

I just added a pic.. Could this be caused by ich?

From what I have read-you can medicate but that will drop oxygen if you aren't careful. I've heard people just make sure they are eating really well and hope for the best. Some people suggest a fresh water dip, but if you have it in the tank they will get it again unless they are allowed to die out within a few weeks without a host being present. I've not had much luck with the meds. I'm curious if throwing in a few cleaner wrasse will help...

Sounds like it if they all have it. But ich is usually described as the appearance of salt on their skin. Small white spots or bumps. It's under the skin to begin with you will see sub cutaneous bumps then the outbreak. I suppose extreme enough it could appear as the skin is slothing off.

I'm no expert so I'd like some other opinions but from again what I've read you want to be careful raising temp in addition to medicating. Higher temps will drive out O2. in addition to the meds could be fatal. Slowly increase the temp 1 degree an hr perhaps, let your tank warm up then increase another degree. I hope you didn't just go from 78 to 82 for instance.

lol no, i actually read that on a forum, raising the temp to help cure ich. from what i read it said 1/2 degree an hour so i was going at that pace. any idea on how to get ride of ich all together? not only curing my fish but out of the tank... another querstion to add, could this be cause from an over load in my tank? i have a 100g + 20g sump, 50pds of live rock and 1 humu trig, 1 clown trig, 2 niger trig, 1 tomato clown, 1 spiny box puffer.. i wanna do my best to make sure i take all measures ensuring this does not happen again..

some people argue that fish will always have ich and it comes out when the fish are stressed and their immune system is decreased. Once ich enters the tank it goes through several life stages. I recommend you google some about ich, you will learn tons. I've heard that a uv sterilizer will kill the ich larva but the better solution is to keep your fish stress free....

Horrible idea. By raising the temperature, you're accelerating ich's lifecycle, meaning your fish has to deal with more and more ich at a faster pace. I would liken it to taking a virus like streptococcus (strep throat), and making it multiply faster, so you get symptoms more like ebola.

I"m not sure if that's ich or not. I've never seen it like that just the grainy salt look. That almost looks as tho there is a slim coating on it not coming off of him but falling and settling on him. Sry man no clue.
