Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I really appreciate it. I do not want Otto starve and try to take the best care of the fish I have. I do hang bits of nori on the glass (soaked in selcon and garlic) but they never last. Between the tang, female clown, and six line wrasse it never lasts long.

When I feed them, the gangs acts like the other fish. It is up at the top waiting for the food. The angel is the only one that isn't actively searching for food.

I have watched it poop recently and it comes out more of a string. I have seen it with a string of poop about an inch long before. This is my first tang and don't know if that is normal.

Are these medications reef safe or do I need to put it in a quarantine tank? I would hate to stress it more. Thanks in advance!!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

As far as Im aware, alot of them if added to the tank will harm feather duster worms and other ornimental worms in the tank...

Not sure about the other corals and inverts though.

    Hi Guys,

I have been looking at possible medicines for the hippo and it looks like metronidazole parasites and bacterial infections. Focus treats fungal and bacterial infections. Neither treat viral infections. I looked at seachem's website and it looks like paraguard treats all. Their website says that they don't advertise it as reef safe but have used it with corals and inverts with both good and bad results. Has anyone used it in their tank? Thanks!!!

The combo of metronidazole and focus is what you want if you suspect an internal infection or parasite. Between the two of them, it will cover the spectrum of possible infective agents. The combination of focus and metronidazole in fish food is reef safe.

Paraguard is not what you want. It is designed to treat mostly external infection such as crypt. It is especially good at clearing infections of gills. But for internal parasites - not really what you want. It is also NOT reef safe, and would necessitate a quarantine tank.

If you are still unsure, email seachem. They are very good about quick and helpful responses.

Thanks for the quick response and information. I will call the local fish stores and see if they carry it. If not, I will order it. Thanks again!!
