What kind of shrimp do you want to breed?
If you can buy them cheap, it's the way to go.
Mysid take a long time to grow to any size and need a lot of tanks, because you have to keep the sizes separate. Larger ones eat the younger ones.
This commercial set up can give you some idea of how to set up a home version.

If it's brine shrimp you want to culture, it's relatively easy but time consuming to grow them in any appreciable qty/density.
If you are in the right climate, you can grow them outdoors in a kids plastic pool.
My site shows how I started out, but now I grow them in up to 8 twenty six gallon garbage pails, depending on demand.

i beleive they are white shrimp. they are cheap $.25 each but they are atleast an hr drive away and i can usually only get there during rush hour ( very bad traffic here) if they can be bred itd be worth it to me to do it. also i think a shrimp tank would be cool. :)

Could be freshwater ghost shrimp or mysis, or salt water mysids.
You will not be able to grow enough in one tank because they take about 3 months to grow and while they are growing they eat their young unless you separate them to another tank. I had four tanks on the go and should have had one or two more as I still had losses to cannibalism.

sounds like ghost shrimp to me , i feed my guy those from time to time myself though i find its just easier to feed him frozen krill

remember mantis shrimp are lazy they way rather u just gave them somthin ready to eat rather than havin to kill it themselves >,<

They stockpile too, so give them enough to stash and sit on and they'll save energy for the molt and collecting rocks.
