I think I'm going to buy a skunk cleaner shrimp and I have a couple questions. Will my purple psuedochromis attack the shrimp? I heard they will sometimes kill shrimp. Also do skunk cleaners only clean fish or do they also eat nuisance algae from the tank?

Any basslets/pseudochromis present a decent risk to ornamental shirmp, but it varies by species. As far as I have seen purple psuedos present a pretty substantial risk, especially older/larger ones.

Can't say I have noticed my cleaner doing anything of productive value, but he sure is pretty to watch :)

A purple is slighter lower risk than say a royal gramma, but as stated, there is a risk. Really depends in the fish as an individual. Sorry couldn't be much more help, but thats something you wont know till you try it.
And yes, cleaner shrimp will occasionally graze algae, although they prefer, at least IME, a more meatier diet. But they do a pretty good job of cleaning whats left over from normal feedings as well, and I havent kept one that wont eat from my hand either ;) I say give it a try, they are really cool and personable shrimp.

Funny, I have had the opposite experience but it goes to show how much of a variable fish can be.

The only issue I have been having as of late is my cleaner stealing food from some of my LPS corals...starting to get a little old

Cool, I'm considering getting one even more now that I've had my first small case of ich on my yellow tang.
