Two days ago, everything was fine, he was swimming around, and finally being a little less shy (I say finally, because I've had him for 5+ months). Yesterday I didn't feed the tank, and didn't look at it much, so I didn't notice anything; however, I also didn't see him. Today, I noticed browning in my sand, which was weird, because usually he kept that at bay. I fed my tank, and he didn't come darting out like usual.. I waited a while, and still no sign. I looked in my overflow, sump, in every cave, and even out of my tank, but found no sign of him. I couldn't look much more, since I had to leave for work.

When I got home, I looked everywhere again, and still, no sign of him. I moved all the rocks, and found what I really didn't think I'd find.. a piece of flesh. He's the only white thing in my tank, so by then I knew he was in pieces. That flesh is the only thing I found of his. I was so shocked and confused, since he's the biggest thing in the tank. The only other things I have (that could be what got to him) are my two small clowns, 5 small hermits, and a LOT of small brittle stars. I'm thinking maybe he was already dead when whatever got to him, got to him.

What I'm doing is getting all the gross algae off the glass, then rearranging my scape. What could have happened? What should I do?

    Poor guy

edit: and now I have to change my sig...

so sorry for your loss :( I'd say it's most likely that it died and then the clean up crew got to him. That's my guess. What do you want to accomplish by rearranging the scape? I'm just curious...

I was thinking that's what happened, too. I found pieces of bone when I moved rocks around a little while ago.

I had to move the rocks around to find (the pieces of) him.. I literally moved every single rock trying to find him. And as we all know, if you take it apart, you can't put it back together the same way. So I arranged the rocks to allow for bigger passageways. Usually when I change my scape for whatever reason, it's a two day job.

Day 1: Place all the base (under-sand) rocks. Usually by this time, the water is really cloudy, so I kind of HAVE to stop.

Day 2: Put the jigsaw pieces together. It takes me a few hours to play around with the pieces so that they don't budge, but the scape still looks good.

I'll post pictures of the new scape whenever I finish up.
