I pick one up last night and the poor little guy looks stressed as he is swimming from top to bottom of the tank in circles. Is this normal? or can i do anything for the poor guy?

Do you have some sort of lid for your tank?

I'd say normal and should subside. You may want to turn off the lights for a while though. However, as others said, they are jumpers so, make sure there's a lid.

In addition to the good advice above, put a small piece of PVC tubing or the like near the live rock somewhere so they can have a den. When they calm down, they will build their own den.
