i belive that a hang on refugium would help the slime problem, just as long as it is breaking up surface of the tank, that is what needs to move

i heard that canister filters, at least fluvals, will leave you with low Oxygen in the tank, but i think the spounges in side the canister will collect nitrates.

I had the same problem with my nano, I added a surface skimmer and solved the problem.. In my new 5.5 gal I did like the guru said and have my powerhead agitating the surface and it stays pretty clear....

Has anyone use an inside the tank refugium to slove high my high nitrate problem? The diagram I saw had 24" length, 6" high and 7" deep. Since same water level as the reef tank all that is need is small power head and a syphon for return.

Thanks Luna! I got that piece about a year ago, it has done well since. I believe there are 3-4 different corals. Zoanthid, and 2 different shrooms, also a nice tube worm(not sure of name).

refugiums are not the cure all, the nitrates are being introduced from an oustide source, finding the source will aid the refugium.

thanks, my nitrates are always less than 25 PPM just tying to lower to zero. In my inside tank refugium I would put two inches LS and LR rumble and lots of chaeto also since open to all to view would add perhaps things my fish would love to eat--small shrimp, copepods, perhpas a seahorse or two and some inverts.. Your thoughts?

some corals feed off of NO3, under 10ppm is good

no seahorse, maybe one or two inverts depending on size.
