    Describe your overflow. Do you have an internal or external overflow box? Does it have a standpipe?
    The overflow should laways flow unrestricted and the pump will return whatever it is capable of.
    Why do you think the overflow is too much and/or the pump too little?
    The level in the tank will be determined by the overflow height and will self adjust based on the size of your return pump. If anything most people will experience the opposite problem, too large of a return pump which outruns the overflow.

    Red Light: Return pump OFF
    Residual water in plumbing drains
    down
    Drilled hole in return line
    breaks siphon
    Water in sump and refugium
    rises
    Siphon is maintained in
    the overflow box
    Sump is tall enough to hold
    excess water

    Use the adjustment screws to raises the intake level up closer to the overall water surface.
