What type of tank, what type of overflow, what type of return pump, how is it plumbed, etc, etc, and so on. No one can help you without this kind of info.

BTW....the ASAP forum is for someone who has a fish about to die, a tank about to crash, or other emergency. I'm moving this out of the ASAP forum.

Gurgling? Like a toilet flushing? If thats the case, you need to dial down your return pump a little, as it is overloading the overflow.

If there is a sponge in the back of your overflow, try removing it and see if that helps with the noise. I have also heard of people using 1/4" tubing snaked down the overflow's drain hole to quiet them down. I am assuming you have a HOB overflow?

I use 1/4" tubing with an adjustable valve going down the drain line so that I can control the depth of the water in my overflows. I have two drains in my tank with an diy overflows. It took a while to figure out how to quiet it down but I finally figured it out. Sometimes you just need to work on it until you get it. It may be frustrating but there is also a sense of accomplishment when you finally get it.
Like others said without knowing your set-up it is hard to come up with ideas that may work for you.

More info needed….pictures would work too.

Is it gurgling or a rushing noise like a toilet flushing every handful of seconds? Going to need specifics to In order to resolve this one. Many times its improperly plumbed and trapping air in the pipe, or you may require an air vent on the top of the down pipe….either way, drop a pic or a complete description of what you got there.
