    Ok here it goes,

I changed over my 75 gallon tank to salt about 1 1/2 months ago. I have a aquaclear HOB and 2 canister filters( I know some people say its bad). I had these sitting around and use one for carbon and the other with filter pads. Went through the cycle and everything went great. Just recently started seeing some patches of Cyano on the sand at the back of the tank and now getting some patches of GHA. Also have had a second Diatom outbreak but I think that is because I just added a Reef Octopus BH-2000. I just ordered from bulk reef supply some GFO and their premium ROX 0.8 carbon. I have a quick crew from reefcleaners for a 75 gallon tank I have a ton of snails. My lighting is a 4 bulb t5 I replaced 2 bulbs with ATI aquablue special and also just ordered 2 ATI aqua blue plus to replace a Figi purple and Giesemann actinic. I am using RO/DI water but sad to say we did fill the tank with tap water( I know :( ). Will the GFO and the new skimmer all I need to get a handle on this?? I am thinking it was the original tap that may be doing this.

New tank syndrome (algae cycles can occur for the first few months) and tap water for the original fill up will do this. GFO will stop the problem, but just make sure to start with 1/2 the recommended dosage for the first month. I use 3 teaspoons changed out every 3 weeks for a 20g tank, and I used to have ridiculous green cyano problems. Used to.

Time, lower your lighting times a little less feeding. Move slowly. READ READ READ Good luck, we all have been there

Ok Got the GFO and Carbon and used 1/2 of the GFO recommended. The Red Slime has went from dark maroon color to a light gray color. I am thinking about getting the BRS dual Carbon and GFO reactor. Only reason I am looking at that is cause I don't have a sump and don't want to have 2 pumps in the DT. Should I take out the Canister filters and the Aquaclear 110?? Not sure if I should just have the skimmer and the reactor running. I have been staying on top of the filters changing the pads and cleaning them out.

you have not mentioned what your flow rate in the tank is. If your just using the canister filters for your water movement, you do not have enough flow, and will not be able to get a handle on the cyano until you do. Water movemnet plays a big key in a saltwater tank.

Your barely at the 10x minimum turnover rate. It may just be flow that is causing you issues.
