    Hi,
I have tiny little mushrom polp that isn't attached to a rock, I have it setting in a depresion on a rock and blocked in place by a couple shells so it can't float off but stil gets plenty of light, how long does it normally take for it to try and grab hold of the rock on its own.

could be a day, it could be a month. ask anyone and youll get a diff. answer everytime. i had a "floater", as i like to call them, just grab a rock after 2 months of just chilling on the sand. i just let them decide where they will go.

+ that!! for the most part they will mount sometime around 2 weeks. The hard part is to keep it from flying in the current .

    HI,
I noticed he has two little bumps on his each side and he darkened to a redish green flourcent, his top is spreading out and is no longer flat almost looks like it growning outwards pretty fast , are those little pods on his sides some type of reproduction?
    Doug
wow this is really cool he took off after my new light arrived. I also feed the tank a tiny scoop of the freeze dried phyto-plankten

I think you are just seeing the shroom it self. When they expand you will see the corner will have a different color, and it mite be new growth. A pic would help alot.

My 2 little mushrooms have the ability to triple their cap size when they are happy with the flow, and properly lit.

This is common for lots of inverts, when they find a place in your tank they like, they expand to full size, which you may have no idea what that full size is, because they have been contracted for so long.

    just one theory

The really hard part is if its in a nicer and somewhat larger tank and you have or want to have nicer corals then to keep them from taking over in a few yrs. I think they will attach ad grow in a mud puddle. I have had them to just over run a tank. If it where me and it's not but from my experiences whith them in th epast is there is never just one and when I see one I just say no or toss them out.. Like ants at a picnic..
