So i just went down to my LFS and bought 10g of saltwater and I had to do a 5g top off with saltwater..Then i cleaned the tank with a siphon and did a 6g water change.

I tested the the water and it came out to be very high nitrates around 60ppm(WOW!) I am wondering why it is still so high after the water change? the rock is cured, everything is from the same system and he didnt take great care of the tank, but it was running, water was clear, fish and corals were doing okay.

I put 20g of his water, and replaced it with 10g of fresh saltwater, i dont get why nitrates are still high though.

I think the water from the LFS is bad.

Have you tested their water on your own. Their RO/DI filters may not have been changed for a long time if they are using RO/DI. It is good to test your LFS' water independently anyway.

+1. LFS has bad water, which you just added to your tank.

I would buy a RO/DI unit, instead of trusting the LFS. Remember, most LFS are here to make money.
