I wanted to see if anyone could give a review on the mentioned RO DI system or on the Aqueon Coralife 05692 Pure-Flo II 50-Gallon Per Day 4 Stage RO/DI System. Thanks in advance

AZdesertrat should pop up any minute now. I can't talk about Smart Reef since I do not own one, but check out spectrapure... I didn't buy my system from them, but I have and will keep buying all my filters from them.

Coralife RO/DI units are pretty low quality and receive a lot of well deserved complaints on all the reef forums.
They are also a little expensive for what you get too.

They use a 1 micron sediment filter which is not bad but it is probably nominal rated and not absolute rated, they don't tell you the micron range or chlorine handling capacity of the carbon block, its only a 50 GPD membrane so makes water 2/3 as fast as the preferred 75 GPD membranes, and since they are mass produced who knows where, you have no idea the age or quality of the DI resin so it could be exhausted sitting on the shelf or in the shipping container on the boat.
No pressure gauge is included so you have no idea of your operating pressure or sediment and carbon block conditions and never follow their stupid advice on reversing the lines to back flush the system!
Why would someone intentionally send untreated tap water to the treated side of the RO membrane, this makes no sense? As long as your waste ratio remains at close to 4:1, again they don't tell you what it is or should be but its probably fixed and not adjustable.

Compare the Coralife to the Spectrapure MPDI on sale for $120:
    MAXPURE MPDI SYSTEM
0.5 micron absolute rated sediment filter, 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon carbon block, 90 GPD specially treated and batch tested high rejection rate RO membrane, fresh specially blended reef specific SilicaBuster DI resin, an inline pressure gauge and a capillary tube flow restrictor you yourself trim and adjust to fit your exact water conditions and a 4:1 waste ratio.

I think the Spectrapure comes out on top.

Or compare the Coralife to another popular unit, the Purely H2o Optima Vision for only $129.

The Optima Vision is also a better value since it does tell you what it includes for a carbon block, the DI is probably very fresh and a high quality blend and includes an inline pressure gauge.

I am very cautious when I am buying something or researching for a purchase and they don't tell me what I am getting up front, no secrets no surprises.

Stick with someone who does wate rtreatment for their main business and not as a sideline.

If you are in Ohio you need to check out www.buckeyefieldsupply.com .
Their 75 GPD Premium system for $169 is an awesome system and Russ is a heck of a guy, he pops in on most of the reef forums with lots of good, useful information.

He includes things like a handheld TDS meter $20-$25, DI bypass valve so you can use RO only water for other uses like drinking and a thermometer with his system so the extra cost is justified. Plus its nice to keep your business close to home when possible!
