    Greeting,
Just wanted to pass along an idea that I think is a good one for everyone to follow,.

If you have power strips and outlets under or near you aquarium, you would likley notice that the area gets spackled over time with water / salt.

I do not think the salt build up inside the unused power outlets is a good thing. For cheap money, you can / should get those plug in safety plugs that you put in when an outlet is unused.

Something like this. (Although a CS reports said these could be a choking hazard to infants)
Find Safety Outlet Protectors and other Childproofing at Aubuchon Hardware

This will prevent gunk from getting in there. The same is true for all unused outlets. Keep dust and kids out of your unused outlets.

Anyway, so I noticed the powerstrip next to my QT in the basement and it had been dripped on for awhile.

I now have everything under my DT sealed and plugged for safety..

    Cheers

I wish I thought of that before last week when one of my strips caught fire. Oh well lesson learned but you make a great point that alot of us never even think about.

I velcroed my power strips to the side of my stand and haven't had an issue with salt creep. The corrosive nature of salt will eat away at the metal and can cause it to short out. JBJ released a replacement for their AC power for this reason. When mine stopped working, it was because the plugs inside were corroded and didn't make a good contact. Putting a thin layer of vasaline will also help combat the corrosive effects of the salt creep too, since it repels moisture and is non-conductive. People use vasaline in water cooled PCs, just to give a different perspective on this. :)
